Have you taken the Leave No Trace Pledge? A new way to show that you care! Hike on over …
Exploring the East Blow Me Down Trail

Every so often, a hike reminds us why we’re committed to protecting the places we love. Recently, writer and photographer Cathy Donaldson joined Leave No Trace Canada board director Rob Thomas on the newly opened East Blow Me Down Trail in western Newfoundland — one of the latest additions to the Trans Canada Trail network.

This rugged four-kilometre backcountry route winds through the Blow Me Down Mountains, revealing rare geology, sweeping coastal views, and an unforgettable sense of wilderness. Rob, a passionate advocate for responsible recreation, co-owns Everoutdoor Adventures and the Saltbox Restaurant in Benoit’s Cove, and serves as Vice Chair of Cabox Geopark Inc. He shared insights into the region’s geological significance and the community partnerships behind the trail’s creation.

Led by local organizations and Indigenous partners, the East Blow Me Down Trail is a testament to collaboration, conservation, and connection. It reflects the values at the heart of Leave No Trace — fostering respect for nature while ensuring these remarkable landscapes remain unspoiled for generations to come. Read more about it here.
